Within the context of the European Commission’s mid-term review of the ‘Europe 2020 Strategy,’ aimed at assessing how the EU and the Member States are advancing in each of the main targets, the Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee – MEUSAC is holding a series of public dialogues with Government Ministers.

These dialogues will be evaluating the progress achieved locally so far in relation to ‘Europe 2020’ in the economy, education and employment, research and innovation, energy and sustainable development, and social inclusion.

They follow the public dialogues with the Minister for Gozo held on 12th June and that held with the Prime Minister on 8th August that focused on general issues related to Malta and in the EU in the context of the first ten years of membership.

The first in a series of four public dialogues was held on 24th September, with the Minister for Finance, Prof. Edward Scicluna and focused on ‘The European Semester: towards sound public finances, economic growth and jobs.’

A second event was held on 24th October with the Minister for Sustainable Development, Environment and Climate Change, Leo Brincat, having as main theme: ‘Sustainable Growth: For a Resource Efficient, Greener and More Competitive Economy.’

The third activity was organised on 21st November, with the Minister for Education and Employment, Evarist Bartolo and Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport, Chris Agius and tackled Education and Employment.

The fourth and final public dialogue will be with the Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties, Dr Helena Dalli and will held this coming Thursday, the 4th December 2014, at 6pm, at Hilton Malta, St Julians, and will have as main subject: ‘Promoting Aof ctive Inclusion in Europe.’ Proceedings will be in Maltese.
