Dogs Trust Malta is calling dog breeders and interested members of the public to join in an interactive workshop on breeding practices on Thursday, the 11th of December at 4:00pm and Saturday, the 13th of December at 9:00am. Both workshops will be held at Borg Cardona Co Ltd, Ta Qali.

According to a public opinion survey of September 2014, 50.3% of people automatically look to breeders when they want to buy a puppy or a dog. When dogs are bred responsibly, using best practices, by a breeder who cares about what happens to his/her puppies the result is a dog that is happy and healthy and will make a great pet.

“However, hundreds of young, healthy dogs are put in shelters each year because of many people are breeding dogs indiscriminately, with little regard for what happens to their puppies,” Dogs Trust Mala said.

“Many behavioural problems can be prevented through good socialisation and early education – these can include aggression, noise phobias, separation anxieties, over-reactivity, shyness and much more.”

Speakers at the workshop will cover all these issues and include Dogs Trust Malta’s PR officers; Christina Pace and Darren Alexander, Senior Agricultural Officer for Animal Welfare; Dennis Sciberras, two show judges; Frank Borg and Karl Flores and Veterinary Surgeon; Dr Victoria Bondin.

The main topics will include adding value to your litter, the difference between a breeder and a greeder, and fun topics such as toy making to enrich your dog’s life.
