ADZ in favour of 16-year olds having right to vote in elections & referendaAlternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party has said that in it’s electoral programme for 2013, it had proposed that 16 year olds should vote in Local, National and European elections. Both the Labour Party and the PN had agreed to limit the vote at 16 only to local councils, AD said.

Alternattiva Demokratika Zghazagh have always claimed, “that we believe in a society where Youth are fully empowered and included.”

The referendum on Spring Hunting would give a fresh voice to the electorate by including 16-18 year olds in the voting process, who should have the right to vote in such a democratic process in order to be fully contributing citizens to our society, ADZ said.

“On 11 April next 16 year olds will be considered mature to vote for local councils, yet immature to vote in the referendum.” ADZ asked, “who are the wise guys in the so called progressive government and the revamped PN who have come to this decision?”

“Why has it taken the PN youth wing so long to decide that they want 16 year olds to vote in the referendum, almost as if this referendum had hit them by surprise?”

ADZ Green Youth Malta said that it is in favour of 16 year olds having a right to vote in all elections and referenda. “Maltese society will be missing a lot from their exclusion from voting in this referendum.”
