Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana, today visited an area in Ghajnsielem, Gozo, which is to be developed into a learning hub for persons with disability.

The learning hub will be the first one of its sort in the Maltese Islands, Dr Caruana said.

In collaboration with other entities, its aim will be to give training to the attending persons with disability in different aspects, so as to learn how to live more independently and to strengthen their possibilities in the search of job opportunities.

For this project, an identified Church Property in Ghajnsielem will be rented and converted into this lifelong learning hub. Today, preparatory works have been launched in order for this hub to start operating as soon as possible.

During this visit the Parliamentary Secretary was accompanied by representatives from Arka Foundation.

Discussions were also entered into for a further, and stronger, collaboration between the Foundation and the Government to work in favour of persons with disability in Gozo.

This is part of the work being done by the Parliamentary Secretariat in order to strengthen and increase community based services in the Maltese Islands, the Secretariat said.
