Union Haddiema Maghqudin, in a statement, has condemned the transfer of a number of Enemalta employees in Gozo.

The UHM has ordered its members in Gozo not to accept the transfer if their pay is reduced, even if it is by agreement with other Unions.

The Union said that these employees were ordered to surrender their keys and tags within 24 hours, without any explanation as to why, how and where they will be transferred. “It was only after they insisted they were told where they are being sent.”

“This is disgraceful and unacceptable,” UHM said. “Enemalta workers have dignity and deserve much better treatment.”

“This is not the first case where the management of Enemalta have approached its workers to move them to jobs with a lower income. The UHM has already been informed that there was a section of workers in the Health and Safety Department, who Enemalta offered jobs within the Occupational Health and Safety Authority, which would have resulted in inferior work conditions.”

“The same happened to the workers responsible for fire-firefighting, when Enemalta approached them to take other jobs, with inferior work conditions,” the Union said.

It continued by saying that it has been informed that next week the workers in the generation section will be advised that their shift hours are to be changed, which will result in a reduction of their pay.

The Union announced that it will organise a meeting for all Enemalta employees at the UHM Headquarters in Floriana, next Thursday at 6.30pm.
