Prime Minister appeals to Maltese workers in Libya to leave the country

The Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat, has appealed to those Maltese workers who are still in Libya, to leave the country and return to Malta, due to the worsening situation in the country. He added that Italy has also issued a call for Italian Nationals to leave Libya following reports of the advances by IS.

Dr Muscat has welcomed the announcement by Italy that it would be ready to join a UN-led force to battle “an active terrorist threat” He said that “Malta will play its part to ensure Mediterranean stability.”

“The fact that terrorists have moved to the North area of Libya puts the European and Mediterranean countries at risk,” Dr Muscat stated. “Malta wanted to retain it’s neutral status but,” he added, “remaining neutral did not mean doing nothing.”
