Gozo Folk Festival: Cultural event, of parades, music & folk performances

The Gozo NGOs Association in partnership with Ta’ Seguna Folk Group, Menhir Qala Folk Group, Tal-Fuklar Folk Traditional Band, Mnarja Folk Group, Fondazzjoni Ta’ Klula, Ghaqda Folkloristika Xaghra, Nadur Local Council, Santa Lucija Administrative Committee and Heritage Malta will be hosting the first Gozo Folk Festival, which is being held on the 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd of March.
The events will include an exhibition, a parade, a musical and folk performance and a folk spectacle, all taking place in venues of great historical value.
The organisers said that the ultimate aim of this festival is to address present a cultural event that has a strong link with the local intangible heritage. This activity will seek to attract both locals and foreigners to ensure that the traditional aspects of Gozitan society are brought to life.
The secretary of the Gozo NGOs Association, the lead partner, Mr. Ryan Mercieca said that “It’s a first for such an event, where Gozitan Folk Groups unite under one umbrella with a common aim that of to promote Gozitan Folklore and Gozo as a distinct destination.”
The events will take place as follows:
Inauguration of exhibition: Santa Lucija, Gozo – 19th March at 10.00am
Folk Parade: Nadur Streets, Gozo – 20th at 8.00pm
Folk Festival: Santa Lucija, Gozo – 21st at 8.00pm
Folk Spectacle: Ggantija Temples, Gozo – 22nd at 11.00am
