A Hungarian male aged 37 years, is being treated at the same hospital, after he was also swept away by the waves in a separate incident that took at the same spot.

The Police, and CPD were on site while a search operation by the AFM was carried out until earlier this evening.

Update AFM statement:

Early this afternoon, the Armed Forces of Malta were involved in a challenging search operation off Dwejra (Gozo) following an incident involving a foreign woman who was reported to have fallen into the rough seas in inclement weather.

The AFM Operations Centre immediately dispatched a Search and Rescue Launch Melita II and an Alouette III helicopter that searched the area thoroughly.

Unfortunately the individual reportedly missing was not found and search efforts are planned to resume early tomorrow morning.

The current sea conditions are very rough and the AFM advises that all members of the public are to exercise caution in areas close to the seashore.
