Zminijietna – Voice of the Left has stated that “burden sharing cannot be carried only by the nearby countries. The European Union should respond strongly to this crisis in the Mediterranean by formulating a common and comprehensive policy, for more solidarity and control of smugglers.”

“The Mediterranean sea has been transformed into a cemetery and is now dealing with a humanitarian crisis and the ruthless trafficking of persons.” it said.

Zminijietna expressed its solidarity with the families of the immigrants who tragically lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea while fleeing persecution, war and economic difficulties. More than 1,700 migrants are estimated to have died so far in 2015, it said.
