During a press conference held at the Gozo Abattoir, the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, announced a scheme for licensed farmers in Gozo, to assist with the costs involved for the transport of grain between Malta and Gozo.

Those eligible for the first scheme include among others, breeders of pigs, cattle, goats, chickens and rabbits, providing that they hold the necessary license.

Dr Refalo said that Gozitan farmers are being offered this aid, after having had to bear the brunt of the higher costs involved for the transport of grain between the two islands.

This scheme came into force on the 1st of January this year and the payment will be made twice yearly in March and September. €150,000 has been allocated over a three year period for the scheme.

To apply, the farmer must fill out an application form at the Gozo Abattoir, where further information will also be available as to how it operates.
