The EU Child Helpline, 116 111, is now available in Malta and Gozo, with the objective of offering help and support to children and young people.
The European Commission has a range of Helpline numbers starting with 116 to assist children and adults in need. The objective in having one helpline number dedicated to a particular social problem will help the European citizens to reach such service by using the same recognisable number throughout all member states.
The EU Child Helpline service will help children and young people by referring them to the various services and resources offered by Agenzija Appogg and other professionals.
In 2010, Malta introduced another EU Helpline, namely 116 123, which is the EU Emotional Support Helpline.
Calls received on the EU Helpline 116 111 and 116 123 will be re-routed to the already existing structure of the Supportline 179 offered by Agenzija Appogg.
The service is operated by professionally-trained persons and backed by professionals on a 24/7 basis.
