The inauguration of a monument in honour of Mgr. Luigi Vella, was held in Savina Square, Victoria, on Friday evening.
Monsignor Luigi Vella was appointed as the first rector of Savina Church and was the one who worked to rebuild the church and open it for perpetual adoration. He was later appointed as Archdeacon of the Gozo Cathedral. He was also known as a philanthropic writer
The ceremony included speeches and the laying of wreaths and flowers at the base of the monument, which was unveiled by the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo.
Schola Cantorum Jubilate perform pieces for the occasion by Mozart, Caruana, Temple, Rutter and a hymn written by Mgr Vella.
