Control your body heat by drinking water as the summer temperatures reach new highs. The Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate has embarked on a media campaign to create awareness among the public to increase their daily fluid intake by dunking fresh, cool water.

Water has several health benefits, including helping in keeping the body temperature normal, helping in cushioning and lubricating joints and helping in getting rid of waste products through perspiration, urination, and bowel movements, the Directorate said.

“It is advisable to drink between 1.5 and 2 litres of water every day, and larger quantities if one is exercising or in hot weather. Those suffering from certain chronic conditions should consult their doctor as to whether they should restrict their water intake.”

‘You are what you drink: Drink Water,’ is a flyer that has been launched by the Directorate as part of a campaign aimed at educating and informing the public of the benefits of water and giving tips on how to increase the daily fluid intake.

For those who do not like the taste of plain, clear water, easy and refreshing recipes are included to improve its taste without the addition of any sugar.

Mater Dei Hospital, in collaboration with the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate and Kristal water, during these past days has embarked on a campaign to encourage people to drink water as temperatures keep on rising.

Mater Dei customer care officials, together with volunteers from Volserv and SOS Malta gave visitors at the A&E and the Outpatients Department a free bottle of water together with a flyer promoting water.
