Schola Cantorum Jubilate has been asked to animate a thanksgiving Mass for the 50th anniversary of Priesthood of Mgr. Eucharist Sultana.
Mgr. Sultana was former Archpriest of the Basilica of Maria Bambina in Xaghra. Though he is mostly known for having served for many years as Archpriest, he has been instrumental in educating the people and in engaging them in many activities linked to the parish and to the village social aspect.
He worked hard for vocations and during his Archpriesthood, the Gozo Diocese was among the top most endowed with priestly vocations, the SCJ said.
For this special occasion, Schola Cantorum Jubilate will perform Mozart’s ‘Missa in C – Coronation Mass’ KV317. For the past six weeks, the choir has been rehearsing this masterpiece with its musical director Marouska Attard who will eventually perform the soprano parts.
Soloists, choir and orchestra will be under the baton of Mro. Joseph Debrincat. The other soloists are: Graziella Debattista (Alto), Edward Camilleri (Tenor) and Albert Buttigieg (Bass). The programme also includes compositions by Elgar, Puccini and even Bach.
The choir said that “undoubtedly, this is another thrilling experience for the choristers who are also celebrating the fifteenth anniversary since the choir’s foundation. Mozart’s work is very enriching and having also visited his birthplace, way back in September 2009, it makes the performance all the more special.”
Everyone is invited for the Mass which will be held on Thursday, the 3rd of September 2015, starting at 7pm at Xaghra Basilica.
