Gozo Live has announced that this year’s play writing competition has now ended and 10 entries were received – 9 in English and 1 in Maltese. All plays have now gone to the judges.
The intention is to select the best overall play irrespective of language, subject matter or length and then 3 runners up, the organisers said.
A selection of plays (not necessarily only from the winning entries) will be chosen to be performed in Gozo initially as a rehearsed reading although later plays may be fully performed.
“Authors will be kept fully informed and involved and the results will be published,” Gozo Live said.
There are 2 judges: Rob Ricards and Sue Scantlebury who are both professionally trained actors. Philomena Ricards will be assisting with the Maltese entry.
The organisers said that the judges have received the scripts without the names of the authors attached so they will not be influenced in any way by possibly knowing the playwrights.
For those who had intended to enter this competition and have not been able to, there will be another opportunity in 2016. The new play writing competition will be announced in early 2016.
