Richárd Rapport wins the Checkmate Chess Tournament 2015 in Gozo

The Checkmate Chess Tournament 2015 and TV Sports Show which has been taking place at the Cornucopia Hotel in Xahgra, finished on Thursday.
10 Grandmasters, 5 men vs 5 women, represented their country, playing for the €20,000 first prize money and the Checkmate trophy.
This is the first time that a tournament of this kind has been organised in Gozo and the show will be televised worldwide and is set to be released in 2016.
Organiser and founder of the Checkmate TV show Monika Gergelova, lives in Gozo and managed to bring the Grandmasters from all over the world to the island, none of them have visited here before.
The Checkmate Chess Tournament 2015 trophy was presented during a ceremony at the Cornucopia Hotel, to Richárd Rapport, a Hungarian chess prodigy. In March 2010, he became the fifth youngest chess Grandmaster in history.Richárd Rapport achieved the National Master title in 2008, and became an International Master the next year.
