President attends a weekend full of activities in Gozo

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca has had a weekend of commitments in Gozo, where among several activities, she addressed the annual conference of the Mental Health Association Gozo.
This year's conference dealt with current trends and issues related to youths, such as self harm, eating disorders, bullying, legal substance misuse and the use of illegal substances.
The President highlighted the fact that young people in their educational path, not only have academic learning, but also the need for lifelong learning. The President also referred to studies by Dr. Carmel Cefai of the University of Malta, which revealed the stress that students undergo in the course of their studies.
The President called for a comprehensive strategy to protect the wealth and health of adolescents and young people, with the focus on the establishment of a number of specialised services which are much needed for youth.
The President also attended a presentation ceremony at the Arka Centre, where through a substantial contribution from the Malta Community Chest Fund, the Arka Foundation purchased a van equipped to provide more useful services to they people who receive the help and support from Dar Arka. Gozo Bishop Mgr Mario Grech also attended the ceremony.
The President together with Mr Preca attended many activities held in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund, including a 48-hour sports marathon at the Gozo Sports Complex in Victoria. Various sports competitions were organised including football, tennis, badminton and basketball.
Attending for the opening of Marathon, were the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, as well as the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing Dr Justyne Caruana.
Another activity held in Gozo was a snooker competition in Gharb, also in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.
