"I have been a citizen of Malta for the last 11 years, and with reference to the comments yesterday, by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, that "Malta's economy is strong, but there is room to grow even more," I agree that it is going better now!
Tourism is one of our biggest markets – also for the future. It is creating new jobs in this case.
As the Chairman of the Gozo Climbing Association I promise that we will bring – with the permission of all Gozitans – in the next 5 years THOUSANDS of rock climbers from around the world to Gozo!
Not in summer – But during the winter months! It will help increase tourism and turnover for the island.
Please help us get a better communication between farmers, hunters and us. For Malta and Gozo!"
Dietmar Treptow,
Victoria.

The rocks are there for scenery. No one wants to see people climbing on them like ants. How aggravating!!! The whole beauty of Gozo is its quietness and relaxation. People who climb rocks should be arrested for destroying their ancientness and others tranquility.
How about fireworks?
Eliza do the world a favour, speak for yourself!
Hello Eliza .
All your comments are negative and unreasonable .
You must be an very frustrated person !
Climbing in Malta and Gozo has a history since fisher men climbing on the sea cliffs .
Modern climbing started with British soldiers in the seventies .
Since the eighties is climbing in Gozo popular .Did you see once one of this “ANTS” ?
And … 8 million euro in the next 5 years for Gozo – how many years will you pay tax for this ???
Dietmar
Please stop destroying our beautiful ancient rocks by putting holes in them. They are very old and cannot withstand that abuse. Some of them have already been destroyed because of rock climbing.
You call me a frustrated person? You should be embarrassed coming into our country and destroying our ancient beautiful rocks!
Eliza forgive me for asking but when was the last time you were actually in Gozo as it seems to me you have very little real idea about life here. I myself do not climb but I can tell you people who enjoy climbing are not ruining ancient rocks nor are they like ants!!! It is nice to see people being active and keeping healthy and it is not just foreigners visiting our beautiful Island but Maltese people who enjoy climbing.
Helga, you say I have very liitle idea about life in Gozo and I’m Maltese? why don’t you get real? Are you maltese because you referred to malta as your island?
Not ruining ancient rocks? Those rocks are there for their scenic beauty and not to be climbed on. Read the article, rock climbing and scrambling which clearly states how rock climbing causes rock destruction.
Thank’s Helga !
Destroying , putting holes – Eliza do you have any ideas about rock climbing ?
Which rocks are already destroyed because of rock climbing – please explain .
Dietmar
Hello Eliza – I am Maltese because my father is Maltese and I was born in Malta and have spent my whole life – 45 years – here. I notice you did not answer my question of when you were last in Malta or Gozo and spent some real time here!
Your part Maltese
The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance ,it is the illusion of knowledge Eliza .Scuba diving ,sag way touring we need a longer vacation Gozo rocks .
ELIZA jien cittadin Malti bhal kull resident li ghawn f’Malta hu Ghawdex hu jekk ma jimpurtax ser nikteb bil lingwa tieghi, la inti Maltija suppost tifhem il lingwa Maltija.
Eliza kemm jien hu helga nixtiequ inkunu nafu meta l-ahhar li gejt ghawn fil gzejjer Maltin.
The point of this whole conversation is that the rocks are being eroded by people climbing on them until they will totally destruct. Look at how the azure window has eroded. Din is sena
Fact, your rock climbing is causing rock erosion which is leading to these rocks demise.
Eliza some would say that with a maltese father and being born and having lived in malta for 45 years I am more Maltese than someone who has lived in New York for years. You still have not answered my question on when you were here for any amount of time last.
Eliza !
Please answer the all questions !
Otherwise – it is senseless to have further contact to you !
Dietmar
Eliza you didn’t answer my question.
Meta kien l-ahhar li gejt ghawn fil gzejjer Maltin ??
Eliza I too am worried about certain things in Gozo and understand your concerns but nature, the wind the rain the salt air the sea etc are the reason the Azure Window is in trouble with erosion not a fairly small number of climbers who infact i have never seen climbing the azure window other places yes but i have never seen it there.
Azure Window ? That’s your point ?
This has nothing to do with rock climbing !
This is destroying over centuries by WALK on it .
Thank you . Get better informed before you are will arresting all the ANTS 😉
Dietmar
Hello all, born and proud to be Gozo Proud. Gozo Rock Clean & Green Hikes which last year and this year we walked and cleaned up the enter Pre-miter of Gozo to be free of trash. It was amazing how much trash we collected. To improve Gozo Tourism first look around you and tell me what you see most Trash or rocks? You want to improve Gozo Tourism and do you think the paths the old roman paths that we walked or hiked the enter Gozo not getting destroyed from OFF ROAD motor-cycles or our land taking by people and it becomes Privet just like that. You want to improve Gozo let people enjoy and hike or walk or cycling around the island and no Hunter or trapping conflict with no one, Maltese or Gozitan Native to enjoy whats ours and share it all together. You want to improve Gozo then lets save whats ours, lets save the soil and the rocks that we have around us, Save whats left but put more tree, but the tree that this island use to have for so many years it getting destroyed. You want to improve then Maltese & Gozitans respect everyone else and share with everyone. We are loosing to improve every day what Gozo or Malta can offer for Tourism Mr Muscat. To know the fact, you need to talk and ask Maltese, Gozozitians or Tourist that hike, walk or cycling about how to improve it. Thank you I care.
