Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Roderick Galdes today launched the Gozo campaign to neuter abandoned animals.
At a news conference in the presence of Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, at the Victoria clinic of The Animal Doctor, the Parliamentary Secretary said that this is the fifth campaign of its type during this Legislature, which is once again being undertaken at no cost to the Government thanks to the collaboration made with the German NGO ETN.
The previous four campaigns had resulted in approximately 2,200 animals being neutered over two years.
He noted with satisfaction that for the first time this campaign is now taking place in Gozo, to help address the population of abandoned animals on the island.
The Minister for Gozo, Anton Refalo said that this is a sign of how the Government is committed to address the situation of the protection of animals in Gozo. He said that this was proved, when for the first time, funds were allocated in the Budget to increase the Animal Welfare service in Gozo.
Minister Anton Refalo and Parliamentary Secretary Roderick Galdes thanked the vets, feeders, officials of the Animal Welfare and the Office of the Commissioner of Animals for their commitment to this fifth campaign to achieve the desired results.
The campaign will be divided in two: From the 8th the 14th of November 2015 the campaign will be held in Gozo through the clinic of The Animal Doctor,' Karlu Galea Street, Victoria, VCT 2605, Gozo, and from the 15th to the 21st of November 2015 in the clinic, VetPlus, Triq ic-Cawsli, Qormi.
