The Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Stefan Buontempo, has visited as regeneration project in the heart of the picturesque village of Sannat,Gozo, where the local council carried out a comprehensive project costing around € 200,000.

Through this project, the local council regenerated the Pjazzetta ta' Xelina located in the heart of the village.

The Parliamentary Secretary remarked on how the area was known to flood with rainwater, and the Sannat Council`s project of combining landscaping the area with a project to collect rainwater, has helped to stop residents suffering the inconvenience each time it rained heavily.

For this purpose, a system of storm water culverts has been installed. Furthermore traffic from four roads entered the Pjazzetta, which, explained the Parliamentary Secretary, was a source of confusion for drivers entering it. Therefore, the new design of the square, allows for a better traffic management that offers a safer environment for both drivers, as well as pedestrians.

Parliamentary Secretary Buontempo also noted that the Sannat Local Council is currently working on several projects, including the completion of the playing field in Triq Marziena to enable it to be accessible to everyone, the tarmacing of roads in the neighbourhood, and the installation of services.

The same council, added Parliamentary Secretary Buontempo, is also carrying out preparatory work, that should lead to more projects of urban regeneration in the near future.
