The Ghajnsielem Lifelong Learning Hub for people with disability, was officially inaugurated today by the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana. This project will be rendering holistic training to people with disabilities who attend this Centre.
For the first time in the Maltese Islands disabled persons will now have a Centre exclusively dedicated to learning.
Dr Justyne Caruana said that this project will be operated by means of coordination between three programmes from three different Government main bodies, including the Employment and Training Corporation, the Malta Communications Authority, and Agenzija Sapport, which will be working from Gozo for the first time.
Agenzija Sapport will run training on independent living for people with disabilities. The ETC will run training on sheltered employment to help people with disabilities enter the workforce, and employers already willing to participate in the programme.
On the other hand, the Parliamentary Secretary explained that the Malta Communications Authority will be providing training on digital technology to people with disabilities to learn how to make good use of this technology and assistive devices.
She said that the objective of this project is primarily to help more people with disabilities integrate into society in all respects and thus have a better quality of life.
Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana reiterated that one of the main objectives of the Parliamentary Secretariat is to give equal opportunities to all people with disabilities at a national level, both in Gozo and Malta.
She explained how the interviews are currently underway for 80 workplaces for people with disabilities in Gozo, which is a project managed by the Parliamentary Secretariat.
Justyne Caruana, is extending an invitation to everyone to view and gather information on the new learning hub, during an Open Week which is being held between the 12th and 17th of December, from 10.00am to 7.00pm daily.
