LGBTI + Gozo has said that it is the first NGO in Gozo formed to protect and voice opinions of Gozitans with a different sexual orientation.
The NGO stated that the organisation's emphasis is on transgender rights needing to be protected. "Although Malta is listed as one of the most progressive countries in Europe, education needs to be based on the reality out there."
The organisation stated that furthermore, even though passing laws and implementing bills is a very important aspect towards a progressive society, that is only one characteristic of it.
"The process shouldn't end with passing a bill and putting a law in place but it should continue with educating people, both with formal and non-formal education and letting people know what their rights are."
The NGO added that having gender neutral bathrooms will continue to help the Maltese society move towards acceptance and tolerance.
"It continues to sustain that people out there need to be informed about what it means to be a transgender and that there are people who fall in neither category and therefore a label shouldn't define who the person is."
"Gender neutral bathrooms in Gozo would mean a significant step in trans rights but also to the LGBT rights in Gozo as a whole," it said. Additionally the NGO said that it again stresses the need for a sexual health clinic in Gozo, "one which would tackle the number of Sexually Transmitted Disease cases in the Maltese islands. This clinic would also be serving as a precaution and knowledge tool."
The organisation also creates seminars about different topics on Sexuality and Gender Identities. The next seminar will be on the 27th of February when the NGO said, they will have speakers who will discuss sexuality in children.
