"The job creation in Gozo for Gozitans is one of the key factors for the largest decline in registered unemployment in our country in eight years, the Ministry for Gozo has said in a statement. "This was confirmed by the figures issued through the National Statistics Office."

"The electoral commitment for initiatives and measures to generate opportunities for new careers in Gozo is bearing fruit," the statement said. "This reduction of unemployment in Gozo is a positive trend that has been ongoing during the first half of the legislature."

"In December 2015 the total number of unemployed in Gozo was 648 compared to 765 recorded in December 2014," the Ministry for Gozo added, "that is a reduction of more than 15 percent, or 117 people, over a year."

The Ministry pointed out that this decline was evident for both men and women, and was registered in all age groups. "This confirms that jobs are being created in all areas, and benefiting both young people seeking their first job, as well as those temporarily unemployed through various reasons."

"The data show however, that the largest decline in unemployment was in younger people, which means that young people are finding that there are more jobs on offer in the labour market, and expanding career opportunities on offer for all ages," the Ministry said.

"The latest figures show self profitable growth in employment in Gozo was 1.8% compared with the previous year and more than 8% higher than that recorded in 2013.
