The Malta Tourism Authority has said that it is pleased with the favourable performance registered by hotels and similar establishments during the month of November, “in particular with the increase in nights spent, as this is one of the most challenging months for tourism.”
Total nights spent in collective accommodation establishments in Gozo and Malta recorded an increase during the month of November and the cumulative period January to November 2015, according to official statistics published by the National Statistics Office.
Total arrivals and nights in collective accommodation during November 2015 were estimated at 103,251 and 567,873 respectively; the growth rate in nights spent of 5.3% was higher than the 3.3% increase in arrivals.
The MTA said that all hotel categories recorded an increase in nights spent, in particular 2 star and 4 star accommodation establishments which registered an increase of 7.8% and 7.2% respectively. The average length of stay increased to 5.5 nights from 5.4 nights in November 2014.
“Arrivals and guest night figures for the cumulative period January to November 2015 show an overall good performance with a 2.1% increase in arrivals and 1.8% increase in nights.”
Collective establishments in both Gozo and Malta registered an increase in number of nights spent compared to the same period last year, said the MTA.
Furthermore, the MTA said, the overall net occupancy rate increased from 64.4% for the period January to November 2014 to 65.7% for the same period this year. “All accommodation categories registered better occupancy rates during this period.”
