Front Favur Il-Mina has called upon all relevant authorities and Ministries to come together to find a solution with regards to the suspension of the Gozo Channel ferry service for cargo from Mgarr to Sa Maison.

It said that this suspension is causing a strain on the ferry service especially during morning trips. "This essentially means that a great number of cargo trucks would have to use the Cirkewwa harbour along with daily commuting passengers."

The Front pointed out that, "this would without a doubt entail a reduction in efficiency leading to more delays for Gozitan firms and additional costs due to an inevitable increase in traffic congestion in the Mellieha and Mgarr (Gozo) areas."

Front Favur Il-Mina stated that "it will also affect the general public, including workers and students who commute daily, where waste of time stuck in traffic would become unavoidable."

The Front concluded by saying that, Gozo Channel's PSO Contract regards the ferry trips as a "lifeline service" and as a result of this suspension, "the element of accessibility has taken quite a toll."
