The Gozo Youth Council has said in a statement that it "deplores the article issued by It-Torca on Sunday, the 31st January, since the written allegations are false."

The Gozo Youth Council stated that it would like to "clarify the facts:"

The GYC said that "the activity organised did not make a profit of € 800 but of €500 since €300 went to cover the costs related to the activity"

It added that, "the donation was €524.23, therefore no money has been lost." The Gozo Youth Council went on to say that, "the Editor of the newspaper could have easily asked the Council to verify the facts before the the article was published. The Council has all original receipts."

The Gozo Youth Council said that Mr. Ryan Mercieca "has no position within the Council, he is only a Project Manager on project that is being implemented by the Council and this project did not have any connection with this mentioned event."

The GYC also said that, "none of the members of the Council are occupying their position illegally."

The Gozo Youth Council called for the media to "verity the facts before any allegations are published."

"The purpose of the Gozo Youth Council is to represent the Gozitan youths and their organisations," it said.
