The Gozo University Group (GUG), together with the youth coordinator for the Ministry for Gozo, recently held talks with Transport Malta regarding several complaints that have effected Gozitan students ever since the change of routes.

The GUG said that the issues discussed included, X1 not stopping at Mater Dei which had become a huge burden for health students. As well as the fact that the route now passes students through Mellieha thus adding an additional ten minutes to the journey, causing student to miss their scheduled ferry.

GUG advised that it has been agreed that the X1 will now start stopping at Mater Dei once again, as announced by The Minister for Transport on Friday.

"On a less positive note, the route will still take student through Mellieha. Although it has been agreed that X1 will not wait the ten minutes it normally waits at the airport, therefore getting students to the ferry in time to catch the ferry," said GUG.

According to the Minister for Transport on Friday, "the 6.45am X1 route will no longer go through Mellieha centre to reduce the time it takes to reach Mater Dei hospital and University from Cirkewwa. This follows suggestions by Gozitan students."

GUG stated that it has received numerous complaints in the past week, stating that buses have not been arriving on time, or sometimes not at all. The organisation appealed to TM to make sure that this issue is fixed immediately, without any delaying as this is a pressing concern.

In the meantime GUG said that it will continue to monitor the situation and press for better service.
