Total arrivals and nights spent in collective accommodation establishments during December 2015 increased by 4.7 and 2.7 per cent respectively compared to the corresponding month in 2014.

Total arrivals in collective accommodation establishments in Gozo numbered 5,203 in December, up slightly from the previous year, when the number stood at 4,833. The total number of nights spent amounted to 13,420, again up on 2014 when the number was 12,166.

The largest share of guest nights for December in Gozo was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 5,682 nights.

In 2015, the total arrivals in Gozo and Comino was 86,951, almost at the same level of 2014, when the number of arrivals stood at 86,644.

In December, total arrivals in collective accommodation establishments in Malta numbered 92,842, while total nights spent amounted to 440,391. Collective accommodation categories recorded increases in total nights spent, with the exception of 4-star hotels and the 'other' category. The largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 208,774 nights, or 47.4 per cent of the total.

The average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments went down to 4.7 nights in December 2015 from 4.8 nights in the same month of 2014. The net use of bed-places stood at 38.5 per cent, down by 2.1 percentage points when compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.

On a national level, there were 153 active collective accommodation establishments during December, with a net capacity of 16,784 bedrooms and 37,155 bed-places.

In 2015, total arrivals surpassed 1.5 million, an increase of 2.2 per cent over the same period in 2014. Total nights spent went up by 1.8 per cent, surpassing 8.9 million. The net use of bed-places advanced by 0.9 percentage points to 63.5 per cent.
