The Communist Party of Malta has said that "the Government should give persons in need a basic income rather than food banks. Food banks are a right wing ideological concept, as these reinforce charity, rather than social justice."

In a statement today the Party said, "Government's measure to increase the basic minimum pension is a step forward as this will help those in risk of poverty. But other measures, such as an increase in the minimum wage and a basic income for those in need is the way forward"
