5th edition of Gozo Week on University Campus hailed a great success

The Gozo University Group, this week held the 5th edition of Gozo Week on University Campus. The aim of Gozo Week is to promote Gozo and all it has to offer.

GUG said that, this week was quite productive; it was a week full of events, talks, debates and games and hailed a a great success,

The first guests were 'The Travellers,' they held a talk, interactively speaking about their band, their new album and the success of their first song 'Semplicita.'

On Tuesday, there was a debate with Ryan Mercieca (PN), Dr. Christian Zammit (PL) and Prof. Arnold Cassola (AD), in a discussion on the future of work in Gozo and the struggle students face to find a job in Gozo after they graduate.

Following this later in the day, there was a photography competition, which consisted of Gozitan photographers presenting photos of Gozitan landscapes and traditions.

Wednesday marked the first edition of the Gozo week games, which proved to be a huge success, in which dozens of Gozitan students set up their teams and competed in various entertaining games around the GUG Gozo week stands. The atmosphere at the University quadrangle was very enthusiastic and one that the organisation believes should be of a regular occurrence at these type of events.

The yearly magazine was also released this week, inside which, various Gozitan students share their academic and social experiences that they have gone throughout the year. GUG said that it makes a very interesting read and it will be online in the coming weeks.

On Thursday, the week long exposition of Gozo continued, through the various traditional picturesque scenes along the backdrops, whilst showcasing photos from previous events of the organisation Students were able to pick up free merchandise and information on available schemes.

On Friday, there was a number of traditional Gozo food stalls for students to explore and taste, which brought the yearly event to a successful and satisfying close.

The organisation said that they would like to thank all the students who in anyway took part or attended Gozo Week and also BOV and Europa Direct for setting up their stands.

GUG also thanked their special guests that included; Dr. Alfred Sant, Dr. Chris Said, Dr. Kevin Cutajar, Dr. Franco Mercieca, Dr. Justyne Caruana and Youth Coordinator for the Ministry for Gozo Anthony Briffa.

"Gozo Week wouldn't have been a success without the help of Quaint Boutique Hotels, Thynk, BOV and the Ministry for Gozo."

The Gozo University Group said, "we are extremely satisfied with the response received this year. We were overwhelmed with the response and participation of the students, as we believe that the students taking part and involving themselves on quad is a very important aspect of what we are trying to achieve. With the closing of this event we now shift our focus on future projects as we aim to continue working hard for the good of Gozitan students."
