A team of the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) observed and filmed an unknown poacher on Saturday evening taking two shots at a protected Hoopoe.

CABS said that the incident, which took place at Girgenti, below the Laferla Cross, at around 6.00pm, "is not only an offence as is was directed at protected species but also a day ahead of the spring hunting season for Turtle Dove and Quail which starts on Sunday."

Both police and CABS are appealing for information regarding the identity of the shooter.
