The Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business Chris Cardona, and the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana, today visited the new Childcare Centre in Xewkija, Gozo.

Magic Steps Childcare Centre was inaugurated in April, allowing Gozitan parents with children aged up to three years of age to benefit from the free service provided at the Centre.

The Childcare Centre opened with a view to assisting those parent working in the Xewkija Industrial Estate. Malta Industrial Parks within the Ministry of the Economy, offered the lease of the property, with the aim of allowing Gozitans to achieve a better work-life balance with their families

Minister Cardona explained that the service of free of charge Childcare Centres, was one of the many incentives that the Government has achieved in this country, "setting records both in terms of economic growth, as well as the largest fall in the number of unemployed in almost forty years."

He said that the latest in statistics for Gozo show that the number of people registering for work fell to 547, down from 742 at the end of the last administration, a decrease of 26%.

Parliamentary Secretary Caruana, said that the priority of this Government always remains that of "offering a better quality of life by creating opportunity and building a climate for investment and stability."

She said that the Government "will be operating for the development of new sectors in Gozo to better harness the potential of the island for the benefit of all Gozitans. Above all to address the challenges related to the ageing population of Gozo and provide opportunities for increased investment in services for the elderly and job creation."
