Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana, attended a `focus group' meeting on autism held at the Special Unit at Sannat Primary School, which was attended by several Gozitan experts working in this field.
Dr Caruana said that the launch of this focus group is the first step in a larger project that will bring together a joint operation between all schools, and all those involved in this area.
This focus group is part of a project of which the Sannat Primary School and Special Unit is involved. Part of the project will consists of training and job shadowing abroad, enabling people to learn more about this condition and then to share their experiences in local schools.
Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana expressed her satisfaction on this project and said that through these efforts more people will get a better understanding of the condition.
She said that the Government has forwarded a law on empowerment for people in the autism spectrum – this law is one of the first in the world. Through this law a council will be set up with the participation of experts and professionals to evaluate, analyse and implement action programmes on the condition.
