The Technical Regulations Division of the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority said that it has found a number of children's soother holders which pose a serious risk to consumers.

The soother holders in question are hand-made locally and have been found to lack conformity to the required applicable standards.

The Division said that one of the major hazards posed by these soothers is the fact that the samples elevated by its inspectors were all longer than the maximum 220mm allowed by the standards, hence posing a risk of strangulation for children using these products. Parents are advised to remove these soother holders from children and refrain from using them.

Economic operators are reminded of their duty to place only safe products on the market, which comply with the relevant standards, and to remove all products which are found to be unsafe, the Division said.

It added that economic operators found to be making these non-compliant products available to consumers will be liable to legal action according to the provisions of the Product Safety Act.
