Following a meeting of its executive Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party has announced that it is supporting the demonstration organized by the General Workers’ Union on the proposed utility tariffs. The demonstration will take place next Thursday.

Arnold Cassola, AD Party Chairperson, said, “Last 6th of October we had said that this issue should not be partisan because the basic living conditions of the Maltese and Gozitan people are at stake. We also invited the social partners to take the lead in unison in this just battle and said that we Maltese politicians should be prepared to follow the united social partners in this important issue. For this reason, next Thursday Alternattiva Demokratika will be there to follow, as promised.”

AD Spokesperson for Social and Economic Development Michael Briguglio said, “AD strongly appeals to Government to carry out proper analysis before imposing the new utility rates, thus inviting unwarranted economic and social shocks. The specific realities of different types of households, businesses and organisations should be analysed through economic and sociological analysis. Wasteful practices should be penalised and not normal consumption.”
