Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Stefan Buontempo and Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Disability and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana have awarded the Local Councils of Xewkija and Dingli as winners of the A+ Accessibility Scheme, with projects totalling €360,000.

In Xewkija, a lift has been installed in the public convenience, making more accessible and Dingli square has had among others, ramps installed, together with a zebra crossing near the church.

Also present for the ceremony was the KNPD Chairperson Oliver Scicluna, who explained the process of evaluation for the award. Nine Local Councils applied for the scheme.

Parliamentary Secretary Stefan Buontempo said that the main aim of the award, is that Local Councils invest in infrastructure improvements, to improve accessibility for all.

Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana said that these projects, together with previous winners Xaghra, Qormi and Sliema, are a model and guide for other locations to follow. She added that the next scheme will not only include Local Councils, but other entities too.

Those in attendance today, were representatives of the Xewkija and Dingli Local Councils and Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg, who for eight years led Dingli Local Council.
