Today, the Minister of Health Chris Fearne signed an agreement with top officials of the MUMN for nursing staff working with the new operator on the projects of Gozo General Hospital, St. Luke's and Karen Grech. This agreement guarantees the working conditions for the employees of these hospitals.
"This agreement is a confirmation that the present workers in these hospitals will remain government employees, with the same working conditions under the collective agreement," said Minister Fearne.
Among other things the MUMN and the Government agreed that once the project in Gozo is completed, it is appropriate that Gozitan workers will be given first preference to work in Gozo
"The public-private partnership between the Government and Vitals Global Healthcare will lead to the highest level of treatment, with high standards, and these services will remain free for Maltese patients. It is a project that will also introduce our country the concept of medical tourism."
Minister Fearne said it is estimated that every medical tourist will be spending approximately € 10,000 in care and other services while in our country. Vitals Global Healthcare will be making profits from these medical tourists.
Secretary General of the MUMN Colin Galea said that hospital workers will be working in state-of-the-art facilities offering the highest standards.
"This agreement is important because it will formalise the position of workers," said Colin Galea.
