The Federation for Hunting and Conservation – Malta (FKNK) has warned in a statement that, “it will not tolerate anyone, because of whose illegal activities, legal traditional live-bird capturing may in any slight manner be jeopardised, now or anytime in the future.”

The FKNK also said that it will immediately revoke the membership of any FKNK trapper member who may be found guilty in Court of illegal trapping activities. “Without FKNK membership a trapping licence is not possible,”

FKNK then went on to criticise the statement issued by CABS last week, saying that, “anti-hunting personnel have reported the discovery of six active trapping sites which presumably would be used by unknown persons to catch .waterbirds.”

The hunters said that the statement was “probably, a further effort to influence the European Court of Justice, where at present Malta is contesting its European Membership right to correctly apply derogation from the EU Birds Directive to legally permit traditional live-finch capturing.”

“Whilst admitting that such illegal trapping activities have now been seriously restrained, the anti-hunting recruits could not resist the temptation to add their operations guarantee phrase that this discovery is doubtlessly the tip of the iceberg,” said the FKNK.
