Nature Trust (Malta) has said that Wied Ghomor is a scheduled valley and should be protected.

The NGO said that it supports residents of Ibragg, Swieqi. San Gwann, Victoria Gardens and the three local councils concerned, in calling for the Planning Authority to stand by the initial unanimous decision to refuse the permit for old peoples home in the Wied Ghomor quarry.

NTM also insisted that the Planning Authority should consider alternatives such as rehabilitation into an activity park with embellishment with trees.

"This quarry renders it suitable for such a use since it is Coralline Limestone with natural looking cliff sides. The alternative of infilling would mean trucks passing through developed housing areas for at least 5-years."

"Our islands, especially the north harbour region, needs green lungs and places where people can do active sports. It is time that restoration actually involves restoring back to nature and not further development," said NTM.
