The San Lawrenz Local Council in a statement this evening has called on the public to help protect the Azure Window, saying that "it is now clearly evident that walking across the top of this Gozo landmark is causing damage, as well as creating personal physical danger."
San Lawrenz Mayor Noel Formosa said that "as this natural gem falls within the boundaries of the Council, we support all the statements issued so far by the various authorities and organisations, and reiterate the appeal to the public to protect this very important heritage, both from the environmental and historical aspect."
"Especially now that is proven that with people walking over the Azure Window, the damage being caused may be irreparable."

Why don’t the council put up better fencing and barriers to stop the idiots walking up there?
Human attempts to stop the forces of nature eroding the Azure Window are futile. The wind, rain and power of the sea will prevail. After all, that’s how it was formed in the first place!
It should be the PA to issue a legal notice banning any body to go the Azure Window whereabouts.
Anybody acting against this notice should be fined at least 100 euros, on the spot.
That’s the way how you teach these persons who do not care for our heritage.
I agree fully John, But it seems to me that people do not give a hoot and they simply do not care about breaking the rules and the damage they cause. I am afraid the don’t care society is settled for good
rawlplug are probably the best people to advise on this matter .they should be able to pin the faults . they would advise the best methods to repair any damage .worth a try .
I sincerely hope that is a joke James! Perhaps you might suggest somebody to put themselves forward as a 21st century King Canute and halt the awesome power of the waves!
