The second edition of Swejjaq, was held this morning, organised by the San Lawrenz Local Council, kicking off activities being held as part of European Mobility Week.
Visitors to the car-free village square were able to experience the sort of traditional artisan market that used to be held in localities scattered all around Gozo and Malta.
Typical Gozitan food was on sale, prepared by Ta Cangura Folk Group. Also available to purchase from local farmers, were vegetables and farm products. There were crafts and other locally made items, as well as information stands.
Activities for children were arranged in a play park, with among others a Bouncy Castle, Bungee line and Mega slide.
Other events organised by San Lawrenz Local Council for this week include:
19th September, 7.30pm: A public informative meeting in the square on the benefits of walking and reducing car use.
20th September, 7.30pm: The square will be closed off to traffic, and a football match will take the place of the cars. Everyone is invited to go along and give their support.
21st September, 7.30pm: There will be a meeting for members of various local committees to explore ways in which we can encourage alternative means of transportation.
22nd September, 5.30pm: Traditional children's games in the square. The event will end with the presentation of a prize to the child who walked the furthest to get to school during the past school term.
