Work is underway by the Ministry for Gozo – EcoGozo Regional Development Directorate, on a cleaning and maintenance programme in the upper valley of Mgarr ix-Xini.

This work will reduce the flooding of agricultural cropland from the valley sides, enabling the farmers to work the land without fear of losing the crops. The project also includes maintenance on rubble walls within the valley side. The work is expected to be completed by the end of November.

The Ministry for Gozo said that this maintenance project will help to increase the rainwater storage in the valley.

So far, through this ongoing valley cleaning programme around Gozo, the EcoGozo Regional Development Directorate said that it has managed to increase rainwater harvesting potential by 53 million litres of water per year.
