Those who suffer with Type 1 diabetes, will as from Monday, be able to start benefiting from four free testing sticks a day to check sugar levels, regardless of their age.

The Minister for Health Chris Fearne said the initiative, which was announced in the budget, is part of the national diabetes policy for diabetes launched last year.

He said that over the next year this measure will be extended to those who have Type 2 diabetes and are on insulin.
