“On Wednesday 16th November, an unexpected visitor came to our school – Sannat Primary. It had no tags and no ties. What it had was a red breast and an injured wing. As I was going to kick the ball, I spotted a robin in the corner. Birds are my passion and I spend a lot of time with my grandfather Joe who is a finch trapper. He teaches me how to take care of birds and how to handle them properly. I immediately ran towards the bird to see what was wrong.

I thought it was a sparrow but soon found out that it was a robin. It was trying to fly over the wall but something was wrong. I tried to catch the bird in order to put it somewhere safe. I managed to catch the robin and I handled him with great care. All my friends gathered around to see what happened. Some were really surprised because they had never seen a robin so close.

Together with my friends, I went to the Assistant Head’s office where I explained everything to Mr. DeBrincat who is also a bird enthusiast. We decided to call the ALE Police (Administrative Law Enforcement). Within half an hour, they came to school and as a class we explained what happened. They thanked us and explained to us how they were going to treat the injured robin.

After a few days, we received a call from the Xewkija Experimental Farm where they told us that the bird might have been injured by a cat. They also told us that his injury was getting better.

I was so happy when I saw the robin back at school. This time it looked so strong and healthy. The robin was back to school to be freed in his habitat, the same place it visited us the first time; our school, Sannat Primary.

I hope I will see him every now and then flying among the trees that we have in our school garden.”
