The Ghajnsielem Local Council has nominated JoAnne Debrincat for the 22nd edition of the ‘Gieh Ghajnsielem’ award. The Awards Ceremony will take place tomorrow, Tuesday the 7th of December at the Grand Hotel.

JoAnne was one of the founders of the Youth Movement of Ghajnsielem which was founded in 1986. This Youth group under the guidance of Fr Richard Grech ofm, started to organise various activities which helped to raise interests among youths.

In fact just a year later JoAnne and one of the group members Paul Stellini, put forward an idea to start staging a Passion play during Holy week. Thus in 1987 with the help of the late Mons. Joseph Zerafa, who was the Archpriest of Ghajnsielem, they staged the first of many pageants.

She was active in the girls MUSEUM and also in the Community of Christian Life which used to meet at the convent of the Augustinian Sisters. In 1978 she became a member of the Lauretana Choir and to the present day JoAnne is still active in this same choir,

When in the year 2000 the first live crib was organised in Ghajnsielem,JoAnne from the outset took the role of directing the actors and since the first edition of Bethlehem f’Ghajsielem she has continued to be in charge of the actors and the costumes of this popular event. JoAnne is also a member of the Radio Lauretana crew and an animator at the parish church.
