Partit Demokratiku (PD) has called on the Government to take immediate action against the “discriminatory practices currently being used by ARMS limited with regards to electricity and water bills for tenants.”
Partit Demokratiku, in its statement said that it would like to “remind the Government, in particular the Minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, that the infringement proceedings moved by the European Commission were closed, as they have promised to take action.”
“People renting their houses shouldn’t be discriminated against by having to pay up to 50% more in utility bills and being classified under domestic rates, instead they should be classified under residential rates, like any other person paying for their utility bill for their primary home,” said PD
It added that, “just because landlords do not declare properties which are being rented out and thus evading tax, ARMS should not be punishing the tenants and helping the landlords in return.”
Partit Demokratiku concluded by saying, “we are currently witnessing a situation whereby tenants are experiencing an exorbitant increase in their rents and at the same time they are being discriminated against by a governmental agency.”

The Government have agreed to address this problem and have indeed addressed it. However, in righting this wrong, they are penalizing the tenant by way of the new system, and we are not willing to accept the new proposal.
