Large crowds lined the streets to watch the Good Friday Procession/Pageant as it left from the Basilica in Xaghra last night. The procession passed rough the streets of the village, eventually returning to Victory Square.
The procession includes ten statues depicting various stages of the Passion of the Lord and was accompanied by the Victory Band playing funereal marches.
A large number of local people take part in this traditional procession, representing characters from the Bible. Others, wearing hoods, pull behind them heavy chains which are tied to their ankles, either to fulfil vows or as an act of thanksgiving to the Lord.
