The Planning Authority has said that, conscious that construction sites are a nuisance and inconvenience, no demolition and excavation works at construction sites will be permitted within tourism areas of Gozo and Malta during the summer months.

This initiative is being spearheaded by the PA in collaboration with the Building Regulation Office (BRO) and the Malta Tourism Authority.

They said that the enforcement of this legal notice “is one way of mitigating the nuisance that construction sites have on both the tourism industry and the number of Maltese families that move to their summer residences.”

Any illegal excavation and demolition works carried out in the identified localities and streets between the 15th of June and the 30th of September, may be reported to the Building Regulation Office on telephone number 2292 7608 (during office hours) or 99637508 (after office hours).

A full list of localities and streets in Gozo where demolition or excavation works are prohibited during the summer months can be viewed below.

The Malta Tourism Authority, whose competence it is to identify the localities and streets where demolition or excavation works cannot be carried out, said that it reserves the right to change or amend the list of streets as it deems necessary.
