A 50-year-old Italian man has been grievously injured after falling into a machine that perforates plastic bottles at the waste plant in Xewkija.

Police said that the accident happened at about 11.30am this morning, when the man was working on the machine and fell in, his legs then becoming trapped.

The victim was rushed by ambulance to the Gozo General Hospital, where he was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

A Magisterial Inquiry has been appointed into the case whilst Police investigations are still underway.
