Customs seize undeclared cash during currency control checks

Customs officials have intercepted a foreign national, with a Maltese residential permit, trying to carry undeclared cash out of the country. The Passenger was due to leave Malta on a flight to Istanbul.
Customs said that the discovery was made during currency control checks on passengers at the Airport.
The passenger had failed to declare to Customs the amount of €12,440. The police from the Economic Crimes Unit were informed.
Customs advised that any person travelling to and from Malta is obliged to submit a declaration to Customs if he/she is carrying €10,000 or more.
